knightville restaurants

After a morning of fishing on the boat you will have worked up an appetite and there are some great options for lunch in Knightville. When you come out of the marina and turn on to Ocean street there are multiple small shops and restaurants within a couple blocks. If you are in the mood for a beer Foulmouthed Brewery is essentially across the street from the Marina. As you walk south on Ocean street there is also Taco Trio, Cia Café, Benreuben’s Knishery, Sopo Seafood, Judy Gibson, and Café Louis. For a short walk in a small neighborhood there are plenty of culinary options.

Foulmouthed brewery is a convenient spot for lunch on the weekends (hours may change with the season). Their menu contains the typical pub-fare, done well. The nachos are loaded with toppings including spicy queso and a refreshing cumin lime crema. This is a great option for the hungry fishermen looking for a filling snack.  The Bang Bang chicken wrap is a personal favorite. With the pineapple slaw and Bang Bang sauce it has a sweet and spicy kick! Their beer is obviously a main feature but they also make some delicious cocktails. For those of you with kiddos they do have a number of kid-friendly food options as well.

Taco Trio has been a long favorite of our family. We were happy when they expanded their restaurant and moved even closer to the marina. Their menu consists of family recipes from different regions in Mexico. They are committed to preparing their food fresh everyday and take pride in using traditional ingredients when available. When you walk into Taco Trio there is a large menu hung above the cashier station. The menu is robust but do not be intimidated. I have never regretted a single meal so you really cannot go wrong. The taco options are great if you want to try a few different flavors. The burritos are much larger and will definitely satisfy the appetite you worked up on the boat. My favorite features of the restaurant is the salsa bar which has multiple house-made salsas and of course the spicy margarita. The salsa bar options come with any meal. You can sit at the bar for a margarita or they do offer to-go cocktails as well which can be a great option for an afternoon or evening cruise on the boat.

Cia Café stands for coffee, ice cream and art but they also offer great sandwich options and a nice relaxed atmosphere. They are open at 7am Monday through Saturday. The café has local art and handmade goods for sale. This is a good stop for a breakfast sandwich, quick lunch, or a sweet treat.

Benreuben’s Knishery opened in 2021 and is a great option for a grab and go meal or snack. They offer traditional Jewish recipes with seasonal inspiration from Maine. A knish is a delightful dumpling of dough that is stuffed with various fillings and baked or fried. Benreuben’s offers a few options each day including vegetable options, meat and whitefish. They also have sandwiches including corned beef or turkey reubens. The deli case has an assortment of pickled vegetables, sauerkraut and potato salad. They have a number of sweet baked goods as well. We recently tried their tahini and honey cookie which was delightful and may be my new choice cookie.

SoPo Seafood is a raw bar, seafood market and wholesaler. They are focused on helping Maine’s seafood industry thrive by working with local fishermen, oyster and mussel farms and lobstermen. They believe in sustainable fishing practices. We had our first meal at SoPo Seafood this past week. Our daughter is an avid oyster lover. She had one of each of the six varieties available and enjoyed them all. I tried the mignonette offerings and they were delicious. The rice bowl was large with a good portion of salmon and vegetables. They offer beer, wine and cocktails. We look forward to going back and trying more seasonal specials. This is also a great stop to grab more seafood to add to your catch and prepare at home.

Judy Gibson is open for dinner Thursday through Sunday. I have to admit we have not made it in for a meal yet. However, word on the street is that the food and drink are superb. The restaurant is chef owned and operated. They offer seasonal meals with local ingredients. The current menu offers lamb tartare, albacore tuna and Bangs Island mussels and more. (I will pause to make my reservation now!) The cocktail menu has plenty of options with classic and craft cocktails. I recommend making a reservation for dinner after an afternoon lighthouse tour or fishing trip.

Café Louis opened in 2021 and I am ashamed to say we did not visit until this spring. We have gone to Café Louis twice for lunch and have had a great experience both times. They serve Costa Rican and Caribbean inspired dishes. They are open for brunch and dinner Thursday through Monday and do offer a Happy Hour from 3-5pm! We are big fans of cebiche and they have not disappointed with their seasonally-inspired options. The plantain appetizer is also delicious and comes with two sauces. They offer beer and wine but both times we have been there we have tried the cocktails. We have sat at the bar on both occasions and the service was prompt and friendly. This décor is bright and unique! This is definitely a fun spot for a meal or cocktails after your charter!
